Recent Activities of
the Diversity Advisory Council

On May 16th, 2012, the Jacobs School Diversity Advisory Council held its Spring 12 meeting, the last meeting of the 2011-12 the academic year. The meeting included a report from the Dean, a presentation from the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Admissions and Enrollment, a presentation from TEDx speaker Saura Naderi, and a presentation from Gladys Ornelas and Rogelio Nunez-Flores, IDEA Scholars. 32 council members were in attendance.

On January 31st, 2012,the Jacobs School Diversity Advisory Council held its Winter 12 meeting, the first meeting of the 2011-12 the academic year. The meeting included a report from the Dean, Director of the IDEA Student Center and reports from the IDEA Executive Advisory Committee, The Faculty Excellence Committee, The Development Office, and an assessment report from the Business Office. The DAC did not hold a Fall 11 meeting due to the Official Opening of the IDEA Student Center, which occurred on October 14th, 2011.

On May 31, 2011, the Jacobs School Diversity Advisory Council held the Spring 11 meeting, the final meeting for the academic year. The meeting include a report from the Director of the IDEA Student Center and reports from the following DAC Sub-Committees: K-14 Outreach, Retention, and Summer PrEP.

On March 8, 2011, the Jacobs School Diversity Advisory Council held their fourth (quarterly) meeting. Staff from The IDEA Student Center announced the Center's opening and presented their plan for the next academic year.

On December 1, 2010, the Jacobs School Diversity Advisory Council held their third meeting. Lively and productive dialogue took place. Reports summarizing their work, was presented by the several sub-committees members.

On October 8, 2010, the Jacobs School Diversity Advisory Council held their second meeting. Reports were presented by the several sub-committees, summarizing their work over the summer months.

On June 10, 2010, the Jacobs School held a Faculty Retreat on Diversity Issues. The retreat led to the formation of the Diversity Advisory Council and planned diversity initiatives.

On April 10, 2010, the National Society of Black Engineers & Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers hosted Jacobs School Alumna Michelle Baeza, Electrical & Computer Engineering, '99 for a Breakfast to introduce invited student admits and their families to the Jacobs School.
